Ask Father Meyer: What has been the Grace for you during this Year for Priests?

  • The Year for Priests ends this Friday on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart! I have to admit, I am a bit sad. It has been a GREAT year of grace. Personally I have had so many graces and good experiences, here are a few-
?Celebrating a solemn Mass at St. Joseph's on August 4th, the 150th anniversary of St. John Vianney's death, blessing the new statue and shrine in his honor, and cooking lasagna for 100 people.
?Watching people write the names of countless priests who had made a positive spiritual impact upon them and place them in front of the image of St. John Vianney.
?Saying prayers through St. John Vianney's intercession to the Sacred Heart of Jesus every day for the sanctity and purity of myself and my brother priests.
?Receiving several cards and letters from parishioners and students letting me know of their prayers and encouragement.
?Traveling to Ars, France the home of St. John Vianney, for the Year For Priest's Retreat with 1,200 priest from all over the world.
?Having all of the religious education students and school children develop relationships with the seminarians through spiritual adoption.
?Sending our own cards of encouragement to every priest we prayed for by name in the bulletin and before Mass.
?Enjoying as I watched others learn about and experience the life of St. John Vianney.
?Sharing the pictures from my travels to Ars, France and expounding upon his life.
To end this year in honor of the 150th Anniversary of the death of St. John Vianney, here are some quotes:
"All the good works in the world are not equal to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass because they are the works of men; but the Mass is the work of God. Martyrdom is nothing in comparison for it is but the sacrifice of man to God; but the Mass is the sacrifice of God for man."
"Prayer is to our soul what rain is to the soil. Fertilize the soil ever so richly, it will remain barren unless fed by frequent rains."
"When our hands have touched spices, they give fragrance to all they handle. Let us make our prayers pass through the hands of the Blessed Virgin. She will make them fragrant."
"You cannot please both God and the world at the same time, They are utterly opposed to each other in their thoughts, their desires, and their actions."
"Upon receiving Holy Communion, the Adorable Blood of Jesus Christ really flows in our veins and His Flesh is really blended with ours."
"I throw myself at the foot of the Tabernacle like a dog at the foot of his Master."
"Christian women! Follow in the footsteps of the ideal of all womanhood, the Blessed Mother of God; in joy and in sorrow, she will be your advocate at the throne of her Son."
