What can I do to enter more fully into the Advent Season?

  • ?Place an Advent Wreath in your home and pray as a family or by yourself.
?Buy an Advent calendar from a store, or print one off the internet, and count down the days until Christ’s birth.
?Make an Advent chain: for every good deed you do, take a strip of paper and make a ring, add additional strips of paper for each good deed by forming additional loops. Once the chain is long enough, put it on your Christmas tree.
?Read the infancy narratives in the Gospels of Matthew Chapters 1-2 and Luke Chapters 1-2.
?Attend a daily Mass. The schedule is quite convenient.
?Spend an hour, or an extra hour, in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd; adoring our Lord and meditating on His presence among us in the Flesh.
?Read the daily Mass readings each day, even if you cannot attend Holy Mass. The Advent daily readings are very rich-you can find them at www.usccb.org/nab
?Pray the rosary more often, especially reflecting upon the joyful mysteries.
?Celebrate the saints of Advent: Nov 30-St. Andrew, Dec 3-St. Francis Xavier, Dec 4-St. Barbara, Dec 6-St. Nicholas, Dec 7-St. Ambrose, Dec 8-The Immaculate Conception, Dec 9 – St. Juan Diego Dec 12-Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dec 13- St. Lucy, Dec. 14 – St. John of the Cross. Dec 21 St. Peter Canisius, Dec 23 – St. John of Kanty.
?Go to Confession. There are ample opportunities to be reconciled with God. Christ was born to save sinners; acknowledge your sins and be set free.
?Serve the poor and needy: Advent Giving, St. Vincent de Paul, and several local community efforts.
?Bring cookies to a neighbor or friend who might not receive them from anybody else.
?Write a letter to an estranged family member or distant friend.
    ?Go Christmas Caroling.
    ?Mend a quarrel.
FIGHT THE SECULARIZATION OF CHRISTMAS! REFLECT ON THE COMING OF JESUS! KEEP HIS BIRTH IN MIND!
