Why did you become a priest? The answer to this question could take up the entire bulletin, but I will spare you. The simple answer is-God called me. Every baptized Christian is called to live a life of holiness. We do this in different ways-Holy Matrimony, Religious Life, Holy Orders. I was planning on getting married, having kids and working as a teacher. However, when I was in my sophomore year of college, the fall of 1997, I had an experience that changed my life forever. I attended a prayer service on campus, heard a voice and felt God call me to be a priest. At that point I was your “average” college student/athlete and lived a “normal” college life-good and bad. I had never thought of the priesthood as an option for me prior to that moment. From that encounter, I began to look at my life more closely and gradually adjusted and changed aspects to bring myself in a better relationship with Jesus. After about a year, I decided to leave the college I was attending and I entered a Roman Catholic College Seminary in Minnesota. Why did I do it? Because I wanted to be holy and I wanted to lead others in holiness. I wanted to fall deeper in love with Jesus and hopefully be able to guide and direct other people to do the same. My mission in 1997 is the same that it is today…holiness. I want to be a saint and I want you to be one as well. God willing by a life of prayer and intimacy with the Most Holy Trinity it will be so! May God call many others to take part in this mission as well; we need parents who want to be holy and lead their children in holiness, and we need many good and holy priests and religious sisters who desire to lead souls to the Good Father. May it be so!
