The Solemnity of Mary the
Mother of God –
Ask Father
Meyer: What are your new year’s resolutions?
Well, I want to lose 50 pounds, get more exercise,
stop smoking and drinking so much and win the lottery…Ok, not true.
As I look at this new year,
a time for new beginnings I hope to all the more answer the call of my baptism
to reject Satan and live my Christian Faith.
I desire to live out my vocation as a Christian and as a priest to the
fullest. I look forward to strengthening
relationships and fostering deeper service of my neighbor. And lastly, I hope to care for my body, as a
temple of the Holy Spirit, by good exercise and diet.
How practically do I plan to live this out-
specifically concerning my priesthood?
I desire a good transition of the parish offices to
better serve all of the parishioners at
-Seek input
of the Parish and Finance Councils
-Hire a good
bookkeeper for the three parishes
-Create good
communication lines
-Look for
ways to save time/money and not duplicate work
-Foster a
true sense of Catholicity- unity
I desire to all the more, look for ways to
strengthen marriages and families:
-Homilies,
sermons and catechesis devoted to Courtship
- Homilies,
sermons and catechesis devoted to Marriage
- Homilies,
sermons and catechesis devoted to Family
-Viewing of The Demographic Winter for all parishioners will discussion
afterwards.
-Review and
strengthening of the Marriage-prep programs at the parishes
Implement more Adult Education Opportunities:
-Lenten Book Study on Rediscovering Catholicism
-Lenten Soup and Spirituality on Rediscovering
Catholicism
-Monthly Catholicism Video Series by Fr. Robert
Barron
Reaffirm and rededicate ourselves to the mission of
our young people:
-St. Mary’s School
-Sunday Religious Education
-Word up and SNL for High School Youth
-Yearly Retreats for 8-12th graders
-Fundraising for National/International Events
-Intentional planning of “extra” events of service,
community or social nature.
All in all, I seek to serve the Lord first and
foremost in PRAYER. The greatest thing I
can do for my people and myself is be a priest rooted in prayer, in silence, and
in adoration. I hope and pray that 2012
will be a continued year of personal and communal conversion. I pray that God will use me to bring many
people, myself included, into a deeper love of Jesus and his body the Church.
Please join me in praying for this!
